3D FD at Bath’s Design World Cup
On 9 August 2015, 10 fine young men represented 3D FD at Bath’s annual Design World Cup.
The Design World Cup was the brainchild of Peter and Julie Whitehead when on 11 July 1998 (a football world-cup year of course!) they decided to bring together colleagues and peers from the creative sector in Bath for a family friendly afternoon of football and fun. The annual event is still going today, and ordinarily includes a pie tent, bar, music, masseuse, bouncy castle, face painting and an infamous water-slide in a beautiful setting just South of Bath’s city centre.

Each year the 12 or so teams involved represent a nation; this year 3D FD was drawn as Sweden. 3D FD has been playing in the DWC since 2010, and has previously played as England, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Ivory Coast. Since working with our very first client (a branding and design boutique), 3D FD has held an affinity with the creative sector, and has been active in a variety of community groups, including Creative Bath, Meetdraw and also combining these groups with football at DWC and Meetball.

A key element of DWC is the team spirit – each year an award is given to the team that brings the best attitude to the game. This might include supporters, a spirit of fair play on the pitch, or outrageous banter. The 3D FD team always thoroughly embraces this and can often be found in nationally associated fancy dress, face paints, player names and with props, and has been known to hi-jack the PA for an impromptu national anthem, and turn up first with beach towels when representing a certain central European nation! We’ve won the team spirit award more times than we have the tournament trophy!!
3D FD has entered a team every year since 2010, and even organised the 2012 tournament. This year, we sponsored (and completed our customary team-slide down) the water-slide.
Hopefully next year we’ll represent another new nation, and come away with the DWC trophy (signed by Eric “The King” Cantona). You’d be very welcome to come along on the day on Sunday 14 August 2016 to find out who we have been drawn!
MediaClash has taken the baton in organising the event and invest significant time and resources to make the day such a success, and loved by so many. More information about the DWC can be found here.
